River Robin

Original copyright: March 19, 1947

Picture of a river paddle boat.

I know a riverboat,
The fairest queen afloat,
Hear the note
From her whistle’s throat.
Then when she rounds the bend
Of every journey's end,
The folks all jump with joy!

Refrain:
Rolling smoke from her stack and stoke,
Here comes the River Robin!
Round the bend hear the voices blend,
The crew of the River Robin.
Hear her whistle, “Oo-oo-oo!”
Honey, it won’t be long.
Hear those drivers, “Oo-oo-oo!”
Shoving the boat along.
Up and down see her wheel go round.
Here comes the River Robin!

She is the joy and pride as on the river tide
Float and glide, come on and take a ride.
Just see her cut the stream her wake and wash a-gleam.
All aboard, I’m gone!

ABOUT THIS SONG

Written for Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers plus the rich voices of the Hall Johnson Choir in the 1942 Heart of the Golden West, this song was never commercially recorded.

The Pioneers used this catchy tune on stage and in their Teleways radio transcriptions. Few, if any, of the songs on the Teleways shows were actually recorded for the series so we do not know the origin of the recording. There is no sheet music or other paper ephemera. It was registered for copyright on March 19, 1947
